Hello,
My name is Katherine Aromaa and I am the owner and trainer of Cooper’s Dog Training
and Behavior Modification. I am a certified professional dog trainer through
the
Association of Pet Dog Trainers; the only nationally recognized training certification.
I have always had a great interest in animals so it was only natural that completed
a Bachelors Degree in Zoology from Colorado State University. I became interested
in dog training as a career in 2001 when I realized that the methods I had used
to train my own dog had backfired.
I started off by taking private training lessons myself every week for almost
a year! . In that time I dabbled in many different training styles. I finally
discovered that using positive reinforcement is the most effective method.
I began volunteering with other dog trainers and training groups. I was also
a volunteer trainer at the Boston animal shelter. I attended many seminars throughout
the east focusing on the newest and most proven methods of behavior modification
and training. This is where my interest in working with aggression problems developed.
I stayed in the Boston area working with groups such as The New England Dog Training
Club until 2004. I then began an apprenticeship with Jamie Shaw at The Dog School
in Richmond, Vermont, where I taught obedience and agility classes while studying
management and training techniques with difficult and aggressive dogs.
A year later, I moved to Portland, Oregon, to work with “Auntie Tracy” Miller
of Auntie Tracy’s Certified Pet Dog Trainers. I worked through Auntie Tracy’s
doing private in-home dog training for a year before establishing Cooper’s Dog
Training.
